Hi, I'm Sally. I'm an accredited dog trainer with 20 years' experience of helping people to train their dogs. I offer a bespoke dog training service using the latest positive, up to date methods. I'll make training fun for you and your dog, I only use scientifically based techniques that really work, ensuring you have a dog you can be proud of. I offer private lessons either at my house, or in your own home. I cover North Yorkshire, County Durham and Teesside.
Whether you have a young puppy that you want to give the very best start in life or adult dog, I will tailor your training session to meet your dog's individual needs. This could be basic obedience or addressing more problematic behaviours. I also run fun agility classes at a local riding school for any dog over 9 months old.
Anyone can say they are a dog trainer. but not all dog trainers use up to date methods to train dogs. Many still use out of date, harsh, even cruel techniques to control dogs. I think it’s very important to keep up with the latest scientific research and use the latest kind, positive methods to train your dog or puppy.
I'm a Kennel Club Accredited Instructor in companion dog training. Only those who have become accredited can display the Gold K.C.A.I. emblem. The accreditation process consists of a very rigorous and intense theory and practical assessment, which can take several years to complete. At present there are only 100 accredited Companion Dog trainers in the whole of the UK. The accreditation is a City & Guilds, which means it is standardised and recognised worldwide.
I passed the theory and practical assessment weekend run by the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers ( I.M.D.T.) with a Merit and can now call myself a member of this organisation. Take a look at their website for more information. https://www.imdt.uk.com
I'm a registered trainer for Dog Aid UK and a member of the Pet Professional Network, an international organisation supporting force-free pet professioanls.
Training your dog is all about teamwork, building your dog’s confidence, having fun and improving the relationship between the two of you. I’ll show you how to teach your dog life skills; your dog needs to learn to be polite and well-mannered around adults, children and other dogs, so you can take your dog anywhere.
As a KC Accredited Trainer , I’m required to undertake a certain amount of continued professional development (CPD) each year in order to remain knowledgeable and proficient in current practices.
In January 2019 I completed a weekend behaviourist course specialising in Separation Anxiety with the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers & Behaviourists. This is an accredited course recognised by the CPD standards Office. I passed the I.M.D.T. 4 day Practical Instructor course in August 2018, as well as attending training days in September 2017, January 2018, and April 2018 studying various aspects of dog behaviour. I’ve also studied dog behaviour and training with the APDT (Association of Pet Dog Trainers) in May 2012 and Clicker Training at the I.A.B.T.C. (International Animal Behaviour Training College) in 2016, when I passed Level 1 in Clicker & Target training.
I've owned dogs for the last 20 years. I have 2 Border Collies, my dogs have achieved the Kennel Club Good Citizen Gold Award for obedience and compete in agility at Championship level. I competed in the team agility competition at Crufts in 2015 with one of my dogs, reaching the final, which can be seen here:
